This is the story of a young lady's journey to find the father she never knew. The book begins with her at the front door of her mother's old college friend breaking the news that he has a daughter. He denies his paternity saying that is an impossibility. She then counters with a disturbing question, why would her mother lie to her as she lay dying? As the story progresses what appears to have been bad luck causes her to find herself penniless and friendless in a strange town.
