Publisher's Synopsis

Taos artist Don Brackett will be featured in New Mexico Magazine's 2014 artist calendar. Brackett is a third-generation New Mexican who has spent more than 40 years painting timeless villages, monumental landscapes, and hidden places throughout our state. His oil paintings feature rich textures as well as emotion and a sense of place. Brackett attended the University of New Mexico as a fine arts major. He studied under painter Kenneth Adams, an associate of Taos Founders Andrew Dasburg and Walter Ufer. Before his switch to oils in 1980, Brackett painted with watercolours and served as president of the New Mexico Watercolor Society. Brackett later became a member of the Society of American Impressionists, and in 1992 he won first place in the Best of the Sangres show in Pueblo, Colorado. The 2014 New Mexico Artist Calendar from New Mexico Magazine will be a special publication for those who love the quiet villages and beautiful areas of the Southwest. Brackett's paintings included in the calendar are listed below. Calendar paintings: Snow Shadows, Winter Trails, Windy Washday, Taos Moon, Ancient Canyon, Summer Sky, Summer Sunset, Sunday Morning, Ranchos de Taos, Autumn in San Cristobal, Autumn Sky, Riders of the Sage, Coming Winter, and Winter Walk.
