Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious nationwide issue. Research revealed that there are approximately two million incidents of intimate partner violence per year (Rock, Sellbom, Ben-Porath, & Salekin, 2013). In the United States, about every 15 seconds, a female is battered (Blacket al., 2011). For every minute, nearly 20 people are victims of physical violence, which equates to nearly 10 million men and women annually (Black et al., 2011.)Moreover, one out of three women issexually abused or hit byher intimate partner during her lifetime (Dahm, 2011), and nearly half of all women in the United States will experience psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime (Black et al., 201I). In2009, about one-third of the homicide victims that were killed by an intimate partner were female (Statistics on Domestci Violence, 2009).
