Samantha Jacobs is a crime reporter for the Courier-Journal and has seen hundreds of dead bodies, but she's never before seen a person skinned. As a favor to her boss, Sam travels to Bowling Green, Kentucky to investigate the murder of a Western Kentucky University professor and finds herself at the center of an event that spells the end of the human species. All the gods and goddesses of mythology are real but not the Greeks, the Romans or even the Norsemen had it right. More ancient than all of them were the Hittites and the gods they worshipped are vengeful and malicious. Imprisoned for thousands of years in the underworld, now they've been freed by the murderous act of a single man and they're determined to have their revenge. The only hope for the human race lies with a desperate group of survivors led by Samantha, who possess a stolen artifact that according to legend is the only weapon to defeat the gods. Fleeing south in an attempt to escape a world gone crazy and trying to stop the coming apocalypse, Sam relies on former Special Operators and the murdered professor's assistant to help her find a way to end the apocalypse and save humanity.
