July 11. Today the rooms of Head Quarters were thronged. It was a difficult task to elbow one's way through the talking, eager, and enthusiastic mass. A band Of music swelled the air with Hail Columbia and the Star - Spangled Banner, and amidst all, the oath of fidelity to the cause of the Union was administered.
