Harriet St Joseph is an intelligent, likeable, popular woman in her early forties, something of a lady of the manor. On the day of the Village Fete, one of her neighbour's sons, Peter, is found dead - an apparent suicide. But in fact the boy has been killed by Harriet in an act of revenge for the boy's abuse of her daughter, Sara, several years before.
