Publisher's Synopsis

Ian McGruder is a ghost who lived in the early 19th century. As the son of immigrant parents, he was training to go into the financial business. During his studies he learned of a plot by wealthy plantation owners and big business concerns to control the pace and timing of new patents that would affect industrial development in the newly formed American Republic. When he somehow appears to three young men in the deep south in 1971 as a ghost, he is as surprised as the young men. As they become acquainted, he tells them what he learned before his death. They become convinced that the same unscrupulous group is still operational almost 200 years later. As they search for past victims they encounter two other ghosts, who join forces to identify those currently manipulating the system in the 20th century. When the leaders learn of their interest, several attempts to kill the living members of the group fail and this only makes them more determined to get the evidence they need to bring the ruthless leaders of the conspiracy to justice. They use every method at their disposal, eventually gathering enough evidence to get the FBI's interest. The ghosts, however, have their own ideas about the proper way to deal with the situation!
