Publisher's Synopsis

A Princess of Mars is a science fiction novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The book tells the story of John Carter, a Civil War veteran who is mysteriously transported to Mars, which is called Barsoom by its inhabitants. On Barsoom, John discovers that he has remarkable physical abilities due to the planet's lower gravity. He also meets a beautiful princess named Dejah Thoris, who has been kidnapped by the Tharks, a savage tribe of green, four-armed creatures. John sets out to rescue Dejah and, in the process, becomes embroiled in the politics and conflicts of Barsoom's various kingdoms. Along the way, he battles giant creatures, encounters strange civilizations, and falls in love with Dejah. The novel is a classic of science fiction and adventure literature, and has been adapted into numerous films and other media.I am a very old man; how old I do not know. Possibly I am a hundred, possibly more; but I cannot tell because I have never aged as other men, nor do I remember any childhood. So far as I can recollect I have always been a man, a man of about thirty. I appear today as I did forty years and more ago, and yet I feel that I cannot go on living forever. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
