Confidered at the time in which they were incurred as the moft enormous ever fu?ained by this country; and that there is not adoubt, if in comparing the American with the feven years war, the expenditure in the former had been fiated to begin with the year 1778, but that the minifierial advocates Of that day would have exclaimed againf't the injuftice Of fuch accounts. The Objeé'tion, therefore, to the period at which the comparifon is made to commence in my ?atements is totally groundlefs; but were it admitted to the ut molt extent, it would not invalidate the truth of my affertion for if the firft three, or any number of fucce?ive years in the pre fent war, be compared with the fame num 'ber of fucceffive years in the American or any other war, it will be found that throughout every period our expences in this war have greatly furpaffed the moi't enormous extrava gance of all former times.
