Adeline discovers an advertisement for a maid post at the estate of the Duke of Hixe, Theis, who struggles to retain employees due to his fury, and decides to leave her little hamlet in search of work to provide for her family. This decision allows Adeline to save her father's farm. Few people have actually seen him, and the entire kingdom is unaware of why he is the way that he is. Everything changes the moment he sets eyes on Adeline, who he now uses as the target of his sarcastic remarks because she is unable to perform the duties of a maid. During her time at the castle, secrets and scandals are revealed. As they get closer, she learns a very harsh lesson from it: never trust a royal because things are never as they appear.
