Republican Federalism was a new philosophy when the Founding Fathers got together to attempt to build a new nation after the failure of the Articles of Confederation. The entire debate over all aspects of Federal government through representation was a fierce battle between two major factions known as the Federalists and Anti-Federalists.The idea of a small federal government that controlled enough to protect the newfound states was the primary focus with exactly how much federal government was enough. That battle continued throughout the history of the nation with several points in which there was an explosion of federal government that brought the size of the federal government well past the initial thoughts of either side. This work looks to examine exactly how the political philosophy around federalism shifted over time in order to allow this massive growth to happen within the nation.
