twenties she played Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli's memorable Old Vic
production and the world took notice. In the theatre she has played

ROMANCE (opposite her late husband Michael Williams) and more recently AS TIME GOES BY as well as plays and classic serials (MIDDLEMARCH and most recently CRANFORD). In the cinema her films have ranged from LADIES IN LAVENDER (opposite Maggie Smith) to NOTES ON A SCANDAL with Cate Blanchett, but her role as 'M' in the last six James Bond films has gained her a new audience around the world.
