Publisher's Synopsis

Animal Farm by George Orwell was selected by TIME Magazine as one of the top 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present. The book is based around the time of Stalin's regime. In Manor Farm, the downtrodden animals imagine a life of equality and freedom. They overthrow Mr Jones, their human master, and take over the farm. They adopt the commandment that 'all animals are equal'. However, the revolution is betrayed and two pigs named Napolean and Snowball soon take charge. The animals unexpectedly come to realise that they are not equal after all when one master is replaced by another. The novel highlights how corruption and greed can ruin the purposeful outcome of a revolution against tyranny.
