""At the Sign of the Reine Pedauque"" is a novel written by French author Anatole France. The story is set in 18th century France and follows the life of a young man named Gerard who is sent to study with a group of eccentric monks. The monks, who are members of a secret society, teach Gerard about philosophy, literature, and science. Along the way, Gerard falls in love with a beautiful woman named Madame de Taverney, who is also a member of the secret society. The novel explores themes of love, morality, and the pursuit of knowledge. It is a satirical commentary on French society and the Catholic Church during the Enlightenment period. The title of the book refers to the name of the inn where the secret society meets.1893. With an introduction by William J. Locke.
