Bachelor Pad is the story of Shawn Hartings and the steps that lead him away from a life of bachelorhood into trying to find a life-long relationship. The book starts off with humorous details about how to set-up a bachelor pad and how one should look when going out. Along the journey with his loyal friends Chris and Jeremy, Shawn must decide on whether or not he should sacrifice his lifestyle for a chance at better rewards at the work place. The company would prefer that he was married or at least in a stable relationship before they decide to promote him. One night out, Shawn meets a young graduate student named Ashleigh. Ashleigh is not interested in a one-night stand, but is looking for someone special in her life. It is through Ashleigh that Shawn decides to take the leap into the world of adult relationships. The question of whether or not it is better to be single or in a loving relationship is the basis of this satire of the male culture when it comes to sex.
