Bob Tregonnis, the son of a Cornish fisherman, joins a sailing ship to America, but on the way the ship is taken by pirates and most of the crew slain. Bob is forced to join the pirate crew, but then notices their love of gambling. Being a good wood carver, he makes a die, and is soon supplying pairs of dice. But Bob decides to trick the pirates, and makes some loaded dice, winning a fortune from them as a result. The pirates grow suspicious, and decide to maroon Bob on an island. Many years pass until Bob is rescued by a schoooner, a ship that banks pirate treasure at American ports. Bob joins the crew, and continues to cheat pirates out of their gold with his loaded dice. Bob visits New Orleans and founds a successful casino, but he is homesick. Gathering a crew together, he returns home to Falmouth with his treasure. He marrries his childhood sweetheart, and vows never to cheat again.
