Austrian painter Wilhelm List (1864-1918) co-founded the Vienna Secession with renowned artist Gustav Klimt (1862-1918). His artwork was a mixture of portraits, landscapes and genre paintings, often with mythological subjects. Charles Caryl Coleman (1840-1928) was an American artist who spent time in Paris and Italy and whose large-scale still lifes reveal his ability to mix elements from different styles and cultures. Robert John Thornton (1768-1837) was an English physician and botanist. His Temple of Flora (part III of his New Illustration of the Sexual System of Carolus von Linnaeus) featured beautiful floral engravings from Dutch-style paintings mostly by Philip Reinagle (1749-1833) .
