The centerpiece of the Bologna International Children's Book Fair is the annual Illustrators' Exhibition, which showcases recent work by some of the finest illustrators of children's books from around the world. Since 1994 the exhibition has been divided into two separate shows -- one featuring illustrations created for works of fiction and one for works of nonfiction. The pictures were chosen for their artistic and technical merit, their child appeal, and, in the case of nonfiction, their ability to present visual information in a factual and accessible way. Both volumes of beautifully reproduced artwork also contain essential biographical information about the artists represented, and interviews with the jury members appear in the nonfiction volume, making them ideal references for all who delight in contemporary children's book illustration.
