Color Rules was born from a desire to empower Susan Jamieson's design clients with the knowledge and confidence to help them make bold, beautiful choices in their own homes. It began as a complement to "Paint Tip Tuesday," short, practical advice Jamieson offered on her website, things like how much wall does a gallon of paint cover (400 square feet) and how to environmentally clean paint brushes (vinegar)! Her clients appreciated these design and paint "hacks," and she enjoyed the challenge of writing them down. Her readers started asking for guidelines that would help them choose colors, so she started developing a few "rules" to pair with the tips. Readers and clients truly appreciated having the beautiful and the practical packaged together. Jamieson has now developed seventy-six Color Rules, most of which are paired with a time-saving or home-enhancing tip. These rules don't confine or limit, rather, they are designed to let color take the lead in life and home.
Bridget Beari(R), the firm Jamieson founded in 1992, celebrates thirty-one years of color and beautiful interiors in 2023. To honor the occasion, she has package all seventy-six rules into one beautiful and useful book, where the true first rule of color is that color rules!
