Publisher's Synopsis

Based on a joint research project between the Extern Organization and The Queen's University of Belfast, this book considers the problems faced by members of the public who have to attend criminal courts in Northern Ireland. An examination is made of the experiences and perceptions of a group of witnesses, defendants and jurors who had to attend the two busiest criminal courts in Northern Ireland, Belfast magistrates' court and Belfast Crown Court, over a period of 12 months in 1988 and 1989, and suggestions are made for making life easier for people who are called to court.;Appendices at the end include a straight-forward account of the criminal courts and of the procedures that apply to witnesses, defendants and jurors both before and at court. Postage and packing included.
