While the entire town of Bellingwood scrambles to prepare for the Sesquicentennial, Polly Giller discovers a body in an unexpected location - the bed of her truck. Sheriff Merritt and his crew arrive on the scene and their next revelation gives her pause. They've been suppressing the fact that the killer is intent on getting Polly's intention, leaving notes to her on the bodies. The Bell House, a former hotel, fell into disrepair over the last seventy years. Polly and Henry purchased it and while the family is renovating it, someone breaks in and rips copper pipe from the walls, creating a hideous mess just in time for the town's celebration. Bellingwood's Chief of Police is pretty sure he knows who did the damage - someone who has hated Polly from the first time he met her.Through it all, the town of Bellingwood keeps changing.
