Publisher's Synopsis
This anthology of eleven scholarly articles depicting life of Indian women represented in ancient mythology and religious literature in folk culture, history, and contemporary literature and in social sciences. The authors, although vary in their perspectives, give a feminist treatment to the gender question, unravelling the institutions and processes of reproduction of patriarchy in various walks of life. The articles also bring to light the areas of conflict between domination and freedom and the process of development of free self and agency in the women.
