Publisher's Synopsis

At her mother's deathbed, Andrea Reid is told that she was kidnapped as a baby, and is given a letter to re-introduce her to her real family. She reluctantly decides to make the trip, since she promised her mother that she would. Upon arriving at night in the small town, the local sheriff offers to drive her the few miles out to the house. They learn that only the long-time housekeeper is presently living in the house, and that her parents were living elsewhere. In fact, the townspeople had assumed that no one was living there, and had taken to calling the place Satan's House. Andrea learns that her real family is wealthy and lives in the enormous ancestral home only part of the time. Andrea-trying to assume the role of the kidnapped baby Stephanie-becomes comfortable in the old home and gets along well with the housekeeper as they await the return of her parents. However, once the parents return there is a great deal of emotion and confusion. The mother seems quite cold to her, while the father is warm and accepting. Sheriff Rick is supportive. Andrea also meets a local character-a writer that grew up on the adjacent property and has always held a great curiosity about the old house. Soon, Andrea comes to realize that something is not right about the house. Also, her mother suffers from a rare form of epilepsy, and occasionally has "spells". There is a real mystery, and Andrea might be forced to uncover the truth . . .
