Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from China Inside Out

The Rev. George A. Miller spent some months traveling with Bishop W. S. Lewis in China and engaging in evangelistic work. He did not see China from a car window or the deck of a steam boat. He traveled on foot over Chinese roads, lived in Chinese inns, ate Chinese food, slept on Chinese kiangs or beds, preached to Chinese sinners, bowed at the altars with Chinese peni tents, listened to the experiences of Chinese saints, and, like every man of similar experiences, grew to admire, to enjoy, and to love the Chinese people. These sketches are pictures of what Dr. Miller saw and heard. They are concrete, brief, vivid, true. Any missionary, with spiritual in sight and power to portray what he sees, can con firm them by hundreds of similar incidents. Dr. Miller insured the correctness of his sketches by reporting his first impressions instead of waiting until they were blurred by hundreds of varying experiences. Their supreme value consists in the fact that they are straightforward reports of laboratory experiments in spiritual life.
