Cast in large numbers, they were used for ritual ceremonies and in burial. Illustrated throughout from bronzes in the Ashmolean's collection, this book does not attempt a comprehensive history of bronze casting in China, but is intended to serve as an introduction to what is a complex but fascinating subject.
