Publisher's Synopsis
This book covers the entire literary career of Christina Rossetti, her poetry as well as her neglected prose fiction, and her early lyrics as well as the later devotional poems. While Victorians saw Rossetti as a devotional poet, and modern feminist critics have seen her as an important critic of patriarchy, this study sets Rossetti within her own historical context, arguing for her status as a female poet whose work was a fusion of both the religious and the feminist.
