Publisher's Synopsis
The collection of poems in this book were created over a 10-12 year period when he read a great deal of poetry, attended many workshops, and began to experiment with moving from a largely journalistic and narrative form toward poetic expression. He has been influenced by many poets but especially the work of Seamus Heaney, Sharon Olds, George Oppen, and Robert Bly. The poems in this collection capture the past and attempt to bring it to the present by use of dialogue, images, and dream-like feelings of being in the past from an existential perspective. The work is about the power of memory and how, overwhelming at times, it suddenly appears in the present and can starkly alter one's view in the contemporary world.
