Gray's Manual, sth edition, has furnished the basis of the present work. Introduced plants are printed in italics. Vari eties are numbered the same as species for facility of reference and exchange. When plants have been reported but from one locality and without specimens, the locality has been generally placed at the foot of the page. The common names have been} added for the use of those who prefer them. It has been thought advisable to append descriptions of species and revisions not included in Gray's Manual.
