Publisher's Synopsis
Kenneth Branagh reads Elizabeth Gaskell's novella, first published 1864, which highlights the irreversible change industrial progress brought to mid-19th century rural scene. Paul Manning, working away from home as assistant to a managing railway engineer, stays with his relatives, the Homans. He introduces his boss to cousin Phillis.
