Publisher's Synopsis

Based on two seminars given by Chogyam Trungpa in 1972. In this book the author uses the life of the Indian teacher Padmasambhava, who brought Buddhism to Tibet, to illustrate the principle of "Crazy Wisdom" which begins with the process of ruthlessly cutting through layers of psychological deception in order to uncover basic sanity.;The author describes the journey that follows in terms of the three aspects of basic space, energy and play, and pragmatic application which then deals with life sitautions. Trungpa defines "basic space" as an attitude of complete openness that relates to things as they are, not as they appear to a mind influenced by hope and fear. Within this openness arise energies that present one with continual opportunity to discover and work with different facets of oneself. This does, however, require awareness and effort which come through discipline, meditation and the development of fundamental compassion, communication and wisdom that sees the ways in which things might be workable. These three aspects provide a complete basis for the spiritual journey.;The life of Padmasambhava is presented as a vivid illustration of how they can be awakened and put to good use.
