Publisher's Synopsis
"Never at sea" was the motto of the WRNS, but this soon became outdated. Wrens were required to handle the coded signals received on board the "Monsters", the peace-time liners stripped for war-time action that brought over the American Forces for the build-up to D-Day, prime targets for German U-boats. Such work was only one of the highlights of the writer's war-time adventures. She worked at Submarine Headquarters and then was chosen to attend the Yalta conference. As a small cog but an eager witness, she writes entertainingly about the details that lie behind the great events. DANCING ON THE WAVES is more than an unusual account of one woman in uniform. Behind the light-hearted approach is the author's interest in the changing roles and attitudes of women which the opportunities of war created. Life would never be quite the same again - the door marked "Men Only" had been pushed open.
