This work is a comparative study of the poetology of societies with oral traditions (the Kaluli people in New Guinea and the Dogons in Mali) and the poetology of cultures that have their own indigenous writing system (the Hellenic, Chinese, Arab, and Yemeni cultures). It ends with a reflection on the limits of Western poetology.
