When nine-year-old Persephone Northcutt gets creamed by a semi, she suspects that her death may not have been an accident. Now a ghost, Persephone hires a paranormal investigator (not someone who investigates the paranormal, but an investigator who happens to BE paranormal). The walking skeleton of a 1930's detective, Diggory Dirk isn't exactly what you would describe as a comforting figure, but with poltergeists and the magical mafia after her, he may be Persephone's only defense against a fate worse than the death she's already lived through.
