Just forty-four years ago Thomas Meehan, the senior member of the present firm, commenced the nursery business here at Germantown, with but three acres of ground and almost no capita1., From the first he saw that in time to come there would be a growing demand for Ornamental Trees, Shrubs and Evergreens of every description, - not only for large private places, but for Parks and Cemeteries, and he determined to shape his business with that idea in. View. At that time there was little or no demand for Ornamental Trees, outside of a few of the commoner sorts.
