This dictionary has a total wordlist of about 5000 main words with subsidiary words and expressions derived from them. All the words and expressions are defined in simple terms, and examples are given of how each word is used in context.;The vocabulary covers a wide range of topics relating to ecology - climate; energy conservation; vegetation; human ecology; waste disposal; pollution and pollutants; greenhouse effect and energy.;The definitions are given in simple English, using only about 500 words in addition to the words already listed in the dictionary. Throughout the text encyclopaedic comments are given to expand on the definitions. Many quotations from British and American newspapers and magazines add to the definitions and comments, and also show the terms being used in "real life". The supplement at the back of the book gives information on the classification of living organisms, human population growth, the periodic table of elements, SI units, endangered species, and recent major natural man-made disasters.
