This story begins in Arkansas 1935 on a cotton farm. Jacob and Clara are the black owners and work the land with their family. They resist prevailing race discrimination and teach their children and a grandson to do the same. Their daughter marries and moves to Milwaukee and we join her life in 1940. Their grandson and mother move with the daughter and we join his life in 1984. Both the daughter and grandson continue the struggle to work through the obstacles on life's roads and to grow and prosper dispite race supresion.
