Publisher's Synopsis
It's 1868, and winter is fast approaching across a land so untamed even the U.S. Army has deserted its camps. Three travellers on the Bozeman Trail need to follow routes that avoid the great Northern prairies - and the infamous Oglala warrior Red Cloud. The trail may be littered with graves, but that doesn't stop the trio: sharp businesswoman Hannah Holt, her pockets laden with riches from Virginia City; Wiley Smart, an eloquent and loquacious livestock trader; and the boy Linc Larrimer, recently orphaned by the Sioux. But as they head towards the safety of the Bridger cutoff, they face more obstacles than an encounter with the feared warrior. Stolen horses, a shortage of food, and a forced sojourn in a Crow Indian village are just a few. The small band won't reach their destinations without pooling all of their resources...
