"Elizabeth (Detonator Beth) Lawrence, June 17, 1957-February 12, 2015: with an operatic voice and quirky improvisation, D.B. lit up Seattle's arts scene in the 1980s, 1990s and beyond, winning her moniker by sparking others' bursts of creativity. This collection contains 194 photos and drawings of dogzes, katzes, other critters, and animals rescued by D.B. and her many friends. In Seattle, around the mid-1980s to mid-1990s, there were groups of merry noisemakers and poets, gathering in un-gentrified taverns, bars, and sweat-equity-made performance venues: The Five-O Tavern, OK Hotel, Two Bells Tavern, Rainbow Tavern, The Globe, The Ditto, Triangle Tavern, Weathered Wall, Squid Row, Red Sky Poetry Theater, and on and on.
