The present study entitled "Effectiveness of social networking Facebook for teaching science"-a study, belongs to the area of educational technology i.e. use of social networking site (Facebook) for creating a rich content for the 21st century students, so that they are free to access it as per their own pace, time and suitability.
Social networking sites are now one of the most common types of online website found on the internet. Facebook site is the one of the most popular social networking sites. The accessibility and the reflective nature of Facebook site is appropriate to many learning and teaching application and convenient for the learners as well as for the teacher educators to use the website anywhere and at any time.
In the present study an attempt has been made to develop learning material using Facebook pages for teaching science to students of class IX "Central Board of Secondary Education". Facebook page was developed for the 15 chapters of science to find out the effectiveness of Facebook along with conventional teaching method in terms achievement of students and reaction of students towards developed Facebook page. The effectiveness of developed Facebook page is determined on the basis of comparison between the achievement score of students studying with only conventional method of teaching with those studying through Facebook with regular classroom teaching by taking intelligence and study habit as co-variate. The comparison between overall achievement of male and female students studying through Facebook along with conventional method was done.
