Publisher's Synopsis
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
Unpublished texts often remain on random pages, in margins, or in notebooks; they tend to be found in drawers, boxes, cookie tins, or pockets. Until now, this one has remained on an audiocassette that was recorded in New York in 1971. That is, before being a book, The Writer's Apprenticeship was
spoken word, and its text entails the translationor ventriloquismof transcriptions of the writing seminar that Borges gave at Columbia University that year. Each session had a time for student questions, and, like Platonic dialogue, naturally recreates the dramatic contrast between the points of view of the author and his readers. This course, like the extensive works of Borges, does not contain a single page that doesn't also offer happiness.
