When war between the two great nations, Mandra and Genko, threatens the small desert city of Thieron, Captain Laike Skyheart of Thieron's Division Four isn't initially concerned. However, after finding a mythological jewel on one of his routine missions he fears it is only a matter of time before he is called to duty. He is correct and is charged with protecting his nation. There's just one problem; to him, it doesn't seem like much of an adventure. Bored of his life of servitude to his nation and supposed superiors, he sets out upon the mission in his notoriously unconventional style. The outcome, certainly in the mind of his commanding officers, is not what was desired. Meanwhile, on the Southern Continent, a young widow named Myri meets a shipwrecked boy. She is faced with the decision to either take him home or raise him. However, in such dangerous and impoverished times, both are deemed an impossible task. These people are brought together by war and their desire to avoid it at all costs.
