This volume contains the proceedings of an economics conference held in Florence, Italy in August 1985, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the publication of Piero Sraffa's "Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities", a pioneering work which opened up debates on the fundamental issues in economic theory.;The purpose of the conference was to elucidate some of the basic issues in theory and to assess the efforts needed to develop the classical approach to economic analysis and its extensions in applied fields. The conference invited the main participants in these debates to contribute papers whereby they could elaborate their interpretations of Sraffa's work and evaluate its impact on the present economic theory. All key papers and two round tables of discussion are included in the text.
