Author Mabel Hurlburt wrote in the foreword: "With no thought of attempted comparisons, each of the subjects of these biographical sketches projects his own personality through records, letters, sermons and family recollections. Each in his own appointed time and place made his best efforts to fulfill the duties which he was appointed to serve.
