The multi-award winning creator of FLANIMALS Gervais sheds some light on his creation: 'It's based on a background in zoological knowledge - there are little clues in the text like The Coddleflop's Latin name which is Ovarian Fliphanger. I've been interested in zoology as long as I can remember. I actually went to university to study biology but changed courses after two weeks to avoid the 9 o' clock lectures. I did philosophy instead. They both came in useful for this book. I've been trying to do it for about six years, but nobody answered the door until I knocked on it with 4 Baftas.'
Meet
The Plamglotis who, born without feet, swallows its hands to walk on looking for food. Unfortunately, when it finds food it can't eat because its mouth is already full.
The Underblenge has a snerbulent splench sucker that captures prey by sticking to their face and suffocating them, as its suckers are impossible to prize off. Unfortunately, it can't catch anything as it can't move from the rock it was born on.
