The analysis of recorded speech samples as forensic evidence is becoming an important aspect of legal proceedings. This book aims to make forensic phonetics accessible to the non-phonetician, (e.g. lawyers and police) as well as to provide guidelines for phoneticians for an increasingly specialist and sophisticated methodology.;The first part of the book defines the terminology and discusses the evidental value of phonetics-based comparisons of speakers. The second part comprises a selection of cases, chosen to exemplify the theoretical guidelines set out in the introduction.
