Publisher's Synopsis
This book seeks out surprising details in a number of Bible stories. The short chapters deal with incidents involving both well-known Bible characters (Paul, David, Caleb, Gideon, John the Baptist) and a number of less familiar figures such as Obed-Edom, Aristarchus, Hebrew midwives, a slave girl and a pagan military celebrity. Other chapters explore parables told by Jesus, and the book ends with a short modern parable.
At the end of each chapter there are questions for further reflection. These can be used as an aid to private contemplation or as a starting point for discussion in small groups.
The Bible contains many very personal incidents. Discovering the drama in the lives of Bible characters can strengthen our personal faith in the modern world.
