Publisher's Synopsis

An environmental tale for readers aged 7-12. In the twelve villages surrounding the Cuadrante Lake, ringed by high mountains topped with fluffy clouds, the cycle of nature creates a perfect balance. A young girl named Golondrina lives in one of those villages and is the best fisher of all of her neighbors. Even as satisfied as Golondrina is with her life, she longs for adventure and a change of scenery. One afternoon, Golondrina receives a gift of butterflies from a new arrival to the village. The gift leads to unintended disaster when a mass of butterflies plunges into the lake, and the protective clouds made up of these butterflies disappears. When everyone on the lake is forced to move because the land can no longer produce crops and the fish are blocked by the trapped butterflies, Golondrina gets the adventure she has always wanted. But with more disaster ahead, she rediscovers the value of the community she'd left behind and, with the help of others, sets out to return the Cuadrante Lake and the villages that surround it to what they were before.
