This book is the culmination of research conducted in Guyana during the period 1981-1985. It takes no particular political nor ideological perpsective and is an attempt to describe, analyze, and interpret Guyana's political and economic history drawing from a variety of theoretical percpectives and the personal and inside knowldege of the author on the political and economic developments of Guyana.;This book traces political development and the ethnic political culture; provides salient information on political institutions, political forces, and political parties; describes the economic structure and development policies pursued; and then critically examines the impact of all these elements on the resulting process of political change and socio-economic development.
