Publisher's Synopsis
At the beginning of the 20th century, John Taylor, a Yorkshire apprentice grocer, was out of work. Something had to be done to bring in a living. Half a pound of butter on a table in the front window of his home and his wife's delicious jams were the beginnings of his village store. The shop became far more than merely a supplier of provisions, and collected here are some of the many episodes and memories of a life which revolved around the village shop.
