This textbook has been compiled according to the latest prescribed core syllabus for Southern Africa. The primary aim of health education is to help the child to develop good health habits. To obtain the child's co-operation in this respect, it is essential that he understand the build and functions of his body sufficiently for health rules to become meaningful to him. He must also learn that the health and happiness of the community is most important, and that his own health and happiness not only contributes to it, but is, to a great extent, dependent upon it. Public health habits are therefore just as important as personal health habits. This textbook is meant to provide the public with a source of answers to the problems with which he is confronted during his developing years.
